YOGA FUNCTIONAL TRAINING: TRUE STRENGTH IN MOTION

This is a ​​Heart Fire Yoga Collective 300HR Advanced Studies Teacher Training module. They are open to all, you do not need to be enrolled in our 300-hour program to take this training. Full attendance required for 300-hour credit.

Functional Training in Sports has proven to be beneficial for improving performance and reduce the risk of injury. We will explore the role of functional movement in Yoga to enhance each pose and transition. Incorporating functional movement concepts into practice will lead you to experience enhanced benefits and reduced injury risk.

CURRICULUM

  • Overview of Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics

  • Examine the role and impact Core strength has on your quality of movements and injury risk.

  • Study the biomechanics of breathing during transitions and static postures

  • Discuss the balance of mobility and stability and how an imbalance can lead to injury

  • Explore the effects of stretching and strengthening on your tissues

  • Study how your tissues respond to the demands of exercise/stress and how it recovers with rest and restorative movement

  • Evaluate the role of hydration and nutrition on performance and overall health and wellness

 

We will include a 60-90 minute practice each day. Lecture will be accompanied by hands on practice and movement evaluation. Q&A and discussion opportunities will be offered. Experience practicing Yoga is beneficial but not required. A pre-requisite of the Integrative Anatomy and Physiology course is recommended but bot required. All are welcome!
